Juegos In this article we will look at that part of the leopard gecko care that is most important – food. When it comes to deciding what to feed a leopard gecko, for most people the choice boils down to two options: crickets (family Gryllidae) or mealworms (Tenebrio molitor). There are good reasons for that, as both crickets and mealworms are cheap to buy, easy to get hold of, and easy to gut load with nutrients such as calcium so that they’re good for your reptile friend. However, they’re certainly not the only viable options. Let’s take a look at some of the often-forgotten-but-still-worthy-of-consideration feed insects:

Trabajar Leopard geckos are nocturnal, but of course we’re not, so it’s important for us that we’re able to see our pets at least for some of the day. The other consideration is that leos need a day-night cycle like they would get in the outdoors. That way they can live in captivity like they would in the wild: hiding out and resting during the day, and coming out to feed and be active at night.

Trabajo Empleo If your heating scheme includes a heat lamp, then of course that’s going to provide light during the day. If you just use a heat pad with no heat lamp then you’ll need a light source as well to simulate daylight within the tank (ambient light levels in your home almost certainly won’t be bright enough by themselves). In this case make sure that the light isn’t also adding heat that you hadn’t bargained for.

Whatever light source you have, it should be on for about 12 hours per day, or 14 in summer. Switching it off should prompt your leo to come out of its hide box and look for food, so you should feed it at the same time you switch the light off. Even if there are still significant ambient light levels in the room your leo’s tank is in, the decrease in light levels should trigger this behavior (it’ll think it’s dusk, which is an active time for nocturnal creatures).

Yellow

It’s currently unconfirmed whether or not this eye color really exists, but rock star leopard gecko breeder Ron Tremper (creator of the Tremper Albino) has said that he has produced a new morph, the ‘Xanthic,’ that has eyes in the spectrum of bright yellow to rich gold. Apparently Xanthic eyes are laced with red from visible blood vessels like for normal albino eyes.

Some people think that leopard geckos need a light that produces UV so that they get vitamins they need, but this doesn’t make a lot of sense, as being nocturnal they get very little direct sunlight in the wild and don’t suffer for it. As long as a vitamin supplement is given and feeder insects are appropriately gut loaded, there shouldn’t be any problems with vitamin deficiency. you can be published without charge.
