Dog breeds classified under the terrier umbrella are described as feisty, energetic and noted to have lively personalities. Terriers are primarily utilized as vermin hunters. Terriers though are versatile dogs thus apart from being hunters, others have excelled in the show ring and others have become outstanding pets.

It is therefore understandable why a lot of breeders would want to develop new breeds of terriers. Some dog breeders though would introduce a dog breed that has already existed for some time as a new breed. So that the new will be accepted by dog loving public, it is a common ploy of breeders to give the dog an exciting fictional history. In most cases though, the gambit of creating a hyped-up campaign would fail so that the newly created breed would have a short existence. Many breeds of terriers that were introduced in this manner have not lasted long as after a short popularity, the breed will become extinct.

Such is the case of the Old English White Terrier. Terriers with different physical features but belonging to the same breed existed in UK during the 18th century. Dogs belonging to this breed would range from 10 to 15 inches in height, would either have wiry, smooth or rough coats and sport prick or drop ears. Breeders have competed to name and introduce a new breed after the rise of dog shows during the later part of the 1800s. From an existing terrier breed, some specimens were selected, given the name Old English White Terrier and introduced to the public as a new breed.

To come up with a new breed, breeders classified the already existing white terrier. The name Old English White Terrier was given to the white coated and pricked eared dogs. Although the new breed was accepted, other breed enthusiasts voiced their concern given the fact that drop eared dogs are also produced in the same litter

Just as with any other new breed, the Old English White Terrier has enjoyed a good following for quite a while. The popularity of the new breed was diminished because of the dogs’ genetic defects. Being white coated, these dogs suffer from partial or complete deafness making the dog useless as a hunter and as a working dog. This genetic disorder is one of the reasons why the Old English White Terrier has slipped into extinction.

Fleas are hazardous little creatures. Never underestimate them. Although they are small, they can bring harm and great distress to animals and human beings. They find a host and suck on their blood. They are considered as vectors since they carry certain diseases. Their favorite preys are dogs and cats. But they can prey on human beings as well. Getting rid of fleas on your pet alone doesn’t resolve the whole problem. Based on experiment, in a flea life cycle, only 5 percent of fleas are living on its host. The rest are living inside your house. Simply put, if you want to get rid of dog fleas ultimately, you need to destroy flea infestation at home.

To eliminate dog fleas ultimately. Here are some tips that you can do at home:

Vacuum Fleas

It is significant to vacuum first before you spray insecticides, as the sound and vibrations created by the vacuum stimulates the fleas to come out from their cocoons. As soon as they are out, it will be easier to expose them to the insecticides.

When vacuuming, you need to know that the flea eggs can fall anywhere from your carpets, bedclothes to kitchen rugs. Once the flea eggs hatch they become larvae. When fleas become larvae, they can move around because of the hair bristles that are found outside their body. When you vacuum, see that you pay special attention to areas that are damp and dark like under the bed, rugs, furniture and floorboards.

Dispose your vacuum bag properly after you are done vacuuming the whole house. Empty the cylinder directly to the garbage. Take the garbage outside so that when fleas try to breakout, they will not find their way back to the house.

Spray Insecticides

Once you have vacuumed the house, it is time to move on to the next step which is spraying your house with a powerful insecticide. When purchasing insecticides, be sure that your read the instructions and the label especially the ingredients. Look for IGR in the ingredients. IGR stands for insect growth regulator. Products with IGR are potent and they are very helpful in killing fleas. When spraying the insecticide be sure to include floor cracks, areas under the bed and cabinets and stairways. Wait for a few days before you start vacuuming again for the insecticides to achieve its maximum effect.

Properly Clean Your Dog

There are numerous anti fleas’ shampoos that you can buy in the market that are very effective in killing fleas. Nonetheless, if you are like many dog owners who are hesitant to try commercial products, you can still go for all natural anti fleas’ treatment. The most common home remedies for fleas that you can use for your beloved pet are apple cider vinegar, Dawn liquid soap,Avon’s skin so soft, lavender, tea tree oil and lemon. It is also expedient that you invest in a quality flea comb. This is on hand in local provisions or pet stores.

Add Garlic To The Dog’s Meal

Garlic is very powerful in killing and preventing fleas. Adding garlic or brewer’s yeast in your dog’s meal will greatly help in eradicating these cruel pests.

Follow Up Care At Home And Go to Vet Frequently

To ensure that your home is fleas free, frequently vacuum your home. On the other hand, because fleas can develop resistant to insecticides, do not abuse the use of these commercial products. Also, visit your dog’s veterinarian regularly. Your dog’s vet can also give you tips and pointers in grooming your dog properly and how to arrest fleas’ infestation at home.

Having fleas at home is no fun. Consider the tips above and your house will be free from fleas in no time. Good luck!

Article Body:

Think of anything in the world that there is you can’t imagine any positive thing to say. Possibly you will say pests. Pests are damaging. They are hazardous to humans and animals. Fleas are considered as pests. They are normally found in animals like dogs and cats. In spite of this, they can infest people as well. Fortunately, there are ways to eradicate these disturbing little creatures. You can choose between ad products or home remedies. Both are efficient, although the former can be more pricey. If interested to try home remedies for fleas, here are some anti-fleas regimens that you can do at home.

Liquid Soaps

Liquid soaps are particularly used in the kitchen as it can remove hard to wash grease and soils. Does it strike you that liquid soaps can also be effective in eliminating fleas? Yes, liquid soaps especially Dawn Lemon Scented Liquid soap is a great repellent and flea killer. To use as flea killer, mix up the soap in a basin of warm water. Bathe your dog. See that you don clean gloves before you wash your pet to hedge yourself from fleas.

Flea Free Diet

Prevention is very important. One way to prevent fleas from infesting your dog is to add garlic to your pet’s meals. AddingSulphurto their diet at least once a week can greatly help as well. Black Walnut Hulls are also good for pets since it help repel fleas, ticks and mosquitoes. You can buy Black Walnut Hulls in capsule form. They are available in several health food stores and even online.

Herbal Shampoos

Herbs are very potent in fighting fleas. Rosemary, lavender, pine cedar, eucalypus and geranium are very prevalent herbs that are useful in getting rid of fleas. Find a commercial shampoo that contain these herbs in your local grocery or explore online.

Always don clean gloves when washing your pet. Pour a smal amount of shampoo unto your hands and create a foam. This is important to note. As soon as the shampoo gets in contact with the dog’s fur, predictably fleas will try to escape. The lathered up border will trap and kill the fleas that are trying to get out. So after creating a soapy lather, proceed to washing your pet. Pay special attention to the neck and head area. To achieve its maximum effect, be sure that you leave the shampoo for at least fifteen minutes before rinsing. Rinse your pet carefully and dry well especially when it is chilly and cold to prevent draft.

Vinegar

This is a very functional kitchen ingredient. Add vinegar to your pet’s wash and you’ll see that the flea count is greatly reduced.

UseAvon’s Skin So Soft

According to researchers at theUniversityofFloridainGainesville, Avon’s Skin So Soft is a marvelous flea repellant.Avon’s Skin So Soft is available in the leading groceries and online stores. Make a wash solution. Carefully mix 1 ½ ounces ofAvon’s Skin So Soft bath oil to a gallon of water. Soak your dog in this special bath. Based on the study, a considerable 40 percent drop in the flea count was observed after using this remedy in just one day.

As a pet owner, you need to be responsible in looking after your pet’s health. Certainly, fleas are hard to get rid of. But still, you should never take it for granted as fleas are very injurious. Behold the home remedies above and find out which one works best for your pet. Cheers.

Different dog breeds have different kinds of tails. A dog can have cute stubby tail. A long and well feathered tail will surely gain attention because this kind of tail will not fail to give the pet an impressive appearance. A beautifully plumed tail is the benchmark of Keeshond, Pomeranians and Chihuahuas. Tail docking is a practice commonly done in bulldogs and in other breeds of fighting dogs. So Why do dogs have tails?

The tail can enhance the appearance of the dog but this appendage does have some other function. Not many people realize that this appendage that extends from the dog’s trunk does have beneficial uses for the dog. The tail is a dog’s effective communication tool. We know that dogs cannot talk and yet these intelligent animal have the ability to communicate with humans and with other animals. Dog owners would easily understand the pet just by looking at the body movements and as well as the position of the tail. Notice how a dog would wag its tail every time the favorite person is seen. A rigid tail that is held high is a sign that the dog is aggressive and may attack. A tail that is held under the legs is an indication that something has frightened the pet.

Working dogs can find many uses for the tail. Farmers that use a Thornjack to protect sheep can easily see where the dog is located as the tail that is usually held high would be seen protruding among the back is sheep. Dogs use the tail as a counterbalance device. A dog is known to follow a prey even in stiff ledges and similar to a tightrope walker, the tail is used as a counter balance. The dog’s tail is very important both to a human hunter and a pointing dog as it is used to point the location of the game.

Sighthounds and other breeds of dogs that run very fast have very long thin tails that are used as counter balance that prevent them from falling over when they need to make a sharp turn or when they have to stop abruptly while chasing a prey. The tail would function as a rudder that makes for efficient steering for retrievers and other dog breeds that work in the water.

Long bushy tail is common in northern breeds as this kind of tail is used by the dog for warmth. Sleeping outdoors in the snow, these dogs would sleep all curled up with the face protected from the cold by the feathered tail. The tail has another mundane but important function – swatting flies and other insects from the dog’s body.

It has just recently been found that dogs, similar to human beings, can be allergic to a type of food or foods of a certain food category. Food allergies in dogs is one of the five most often found forms of dog allergies, even though the canine is normally born with the illness, food allergies can occur at any time during the remainder of their lifetime.

Warning Signs and Causes of An Allergy to Food

A dog will occasionally suffer a reaction to the different types of foods that they consume. Most often, the reaction is just a belly ache which might effectuate vomiting and diarrhea. An allergy to food is not the same as that though, instead of just getting a case of indigestion, it’ll cause scratching and itching in dogs besides the earlier cited indications of allergies to food: diarrhea, vomiting and bloating. An animal’s scratching can bring on flaky skin, eczema, skin rashes and possibly hair loss. In some cases, more indicators of an allergy to food might involve a loss in weight, restlessness and perhaps aggression.

In dog’s with food allergies, the immune system will overreact to a particular element that it ordinarily disregards inciting an allergic reaction. A food allergy in dogs is normally brought on by proteins that are found in wheat, dairy foods and sugars as a result of eating table scraps. While proteins are the likely cause of a dog’s food allergy, any kind of food or food ingredient can incite an allergic response.

How to Detect Food Allergies in Canines

In the past, an elimination diet was the only way that existed to ascertain whether or not an animal was being affected by food allergies. The canine would have eaten hypoallergenic dog food that did not include the same constituents that were in the previous diet for about 2 or 3 months. Today, the diagnosis can be achieved by a vet utilizing a simple dog allergy test that consists of laboratory testing run on a blood sample extracted from the dog.

Remedies for Food Allergies in Canines

The sole cure for a food allergy is staying away from the food or ingredient that is the cause of the allergy. The most sensible type of food for dogs dealing with an allergy to food is hypoallergenic dog food that contains natural ingredients. This kind of dog food can be given to your dog for the rest of his lifetime without any fear of your pet’s allergy returning.

As a result of the canine’s scratching, you’ll more than likely have to treat dog skin problems besides. The veterinarian will likely propose buying skin lotion and antihistamines. Since using antihistamines for a dog allergy could possibly cause damaging side effects, a natural remedy for food allergies in dogs is a better alternative. There are a number of natural treatments available that have been demonstrated by pet owners to provide outstanding results.

We humans would cry when we are in pain. The shedding of tears that is accompanied by a sobbing or wailing sound is commonly triggered by an emotional situation. This emotional outburst that is characterized by excessive tear flow actually relieves stress so that after a good cry, the stressed person is calmed. A crying spell does not really have dangerous effects in humans aside from resulting to a blotchy face and runny nose.

It is common for dog owners to consider their pets as almost-humans with people-like personalities. Dogs are believed to be one of the most intelligent animals. Moreover, people that have kept dogs would testify that these animals have the capability to feel emotions. Does this theory mean that dogs parted from their owners can shed emotional tears? It is not uncommon for dogs to get injured because of their active and inquisitive nature. Would a dog cry because of the pain associated with an injury.

Like humans, dogs too have tear glands that produce tears. Tears have the important function of lubricating the eyeballs. Tears have the important function of flushing out foreign objects that can cause eye irritations. Dogs have tear glands thus they are capable of producing tears. Dogs suffering from immense pain are observed to have teary eyes. Dogs can cry and produce tears as shown by the tear stains that are most noticeable in dogs breeds with light colored coats.

Some owners love the pet very much so that all the actions of the pet will be observed. Pet owners may hear the pet crying or whining but watching the tears actually running down the dog’s face is kind of impossible. Tears shed by the dog will be absorbed by the fur on the face. Dogs can have teary eyes but they are not capable of shedding emotional tears thus unlike humans, tears would not flow on the dog’s face.

Due to the affection and strong bond formed with the humans, a dog will mourn deeply if the master died. Dog breeds noted to be one-man dogs are known to howl, whine and sulk when parted from the master. These dogs would continue to mourn for the loss of the master for quite a long while. The dog’s grief contradicts the idea that dogs are incapable of showing emotions. Dogs are indeed man’s best friends. These animals have formed strong ties with their human family so that being parted from their beloved people can make the dog whine and howl. Dogs would manifest sadness through howling and whining but they would not be seen with tears running down the face.

Are you looking for playful dogs for your youngsters? Many folks are aware as regards what to search for when finding the perfect dog for their family but there are others who do not know the fundamentals. Though any individual dog might react in another way, here are some tips to aid you.

A dog’s personality is crucial to whether he is an appropriate companion for your child or not. The more ferocious breeds can pose serious threat to the safeness of your children. However ; don’t bring him an ultra mild dog either, since they’d be incapable of providing acceptable protection for your children.

Smart dogs also score over others that have slower intellect. A moderate energy level is also much appreciated. Nevertheless, steer clear of hyper active dogs that wreck havoc in the house. From another standpoint, a particularly timid breed may not be liked as much by your children.

Numerous dog breeds possess the attributes listed above and it could be hard to decide between them. Labrador or Golden Retriever , however, is considered to be one of the best family dogs worldwide. They’re smart, intellectual and gel particularly well with youngsters. They’re also hyperactive and need regular exercise to maintain equilibrium. Therefore only adopt one of those if you can spare enough time for walks each evening. On the positive side, of course, you may also finish up losing weight as a consequence. To drive on the weight loss process further, you can try utilising very efficient solutions like Dietrine Carb Blocker.

What would you do if you if you are in a temperature controlled room, have a comfortable bed and have nothing to do? Sleep!. In similar circumstances, the dog would do a lot of sleeping too. Dogs are not only voracious eaters, they are great sleepers as well. A dog would commonly sleep more than half the day away! Because dogs are often seen curled down and sleeping, many people think that these animals are lazy.

Dog owners would know that dogs are energetic animals. These animals would even develop destructive habits if opportunities to expend their excess energies are not provided by the owner. Dogs like humans would derive benefits from sleeping. Dogs though have the habit of closing the eyes and sleeping whenever there is an opportunity to do so.

The kind of sleeping pattern a dog would have would depend on the personality, health condition and level of activity. Although dogs generally have high energy levels, some breeds like the Newfoundland and St. Bernard are naturally “slow moving” dogs. These breeds are even called rug or mat dogs because of their inclination to lie down rather than indulge in strenuous activities. Would you believe these breeds known as rug dogs can sleep for about 18 hours a day.

Working breeds are different as these dog will be seen up and about doing their work. Dogs that herd and protect livestock would not be seen sleeping the day away as these animals have to be alert, to constantly patrol in order to save the livestock from predators. Dogs used by law enforcers to sniff bombs and narcotics would not be seen sleeping the day away when they are on the job. All around farm dogs would not be seen sleeping the day away because of the work they need to perform.

It would not be surprising for dogs that live in apartments to have more time to sleep given the fact that they would have limited opportunities to be active outdoors unlike dogs that are allowed to roam and play outdoors. Most pet dogs are provided by the owners all imaginable comforts. Aside from having a softly padded bed, these dogs would be living in temperature controlled homes. Dogs would be seen sleeping a lot because their environment is conducive to sleeping. These dogs may appear to be sleeping all day but at the slightest sound, these dogs would wake up easily. When a sound is heard the dog will wake up and be alert instantly. In spite of being great sleepers, dogs have the ability to be awake the instant threat to the family or to the property it is protecting is perceived.
