The materials you are going to require to build a stone bird bath are quite easy to attain: Dry cement, water, a wheelbarrow for mixing and a pile of sand massive enough to serve for the form for the bird bath. Dig out a hole within the sand as big as the hole you’d like your future bird neighbors drinking water out of. This may serve for the mold for your future bird bath. Make certain the underside is nice and smooth. A pile of sand approximately 2 feet in diameter and six inches deep should do the trick. Put 20 lbs. of cement in a wheelbarrow plus add enough water so that as you stir it, you make it to a peanut butter-like consistency.

There are several things to bear in mind when constructing a bird bathtub: You must make sure that a bird bath is shallow. It must be no deeper than three inches as the majority of birds would drown if forced to drink of the a container any bigger. Do not put bird baths near where cats may possibly hide. Although birds benefit the most by winter feeding, they can suffer from shortages during the Spring and Summer too. All through the year put out suitable food to help them if shortages occur. Provide food suitable for fledglings in case there are shortages during the breeding season.

Water can be provided in bird baths and water pans for bathing and drinking. They will love a safe place to bathe their feathers and preen. Water should be provided at different levels for different species of birds. Containers should only be filled to a few inches and should be placed some way away from the noise around bird feeders. The sounds of running water will attract wild birds. Water drippers are great for attracting birds and they also deter mosquitoes from breeding in the water.

A natual looking area of the garden with wild plants and trees will enhance the sense of security of the birds. You can provide an attractive place for them by letting a small area of the garden grow wild.
